This kinetic membrane installation is the final model developed utilizing a collection of digital techniques to create an interactive, dynamic, and fluid form. This acts as a proof of concept for use in a large scale construct in which a space could be continually and wirelessly adjusted. Kangaroo (a Grasshopper plugin for Rhinoceros) was used for iterative form finding. Once constructed, winch servos for RC sailboats controlled by Firefly through an Arduino module allowed for precise movement. touchOSC provided for a touchscreen interface by which the membrane can be controlled smoothly. Designed for Mark Foster Gage’s “Design Reconnaissance” course at Yale SoA.
